Peace Dude

My Woodstock '94 logo design (an homage to the original 1969 logo) is included with other variations of the dove and guitar poster in an exhibit about David Byrd and Arnold Skolnick, who were the two designers for the Woodstock festival posters. Byrd/Skolnick: A Tale of Two Posters will run from April 1 to June 10, 2012 at The Museum at Bethel Woods, which is located at the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, NY.

I just learned that my Woodstock '94 logo design will be included with other variations of the dove and guitar poster in an exhibit about David Byrd and Arnold Skolnick, who were the two designers for the Woodstock festival posters. The title of the exhibit will be Byrd/Skolnick: A Tale of Two Posters which will run from April 1 to June 10, 2012 at The Museum at Bethel Woods, which is located at the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, NY.

The Summer of 1969 I was a counselor at a children’s arts camp on Long Island. I had been hearing a lot about the forthcoming concert in Woodstock on the radio. A fellow counselor told me she and some friends were going to drive upstate to the concert and asked if I wanted a ride. I thanked her for her kind offer but told her that I was afraid it was going to be too crowded.

Amazon Dot Calm

Watching the news just now I saw a story about last night's Rainforest Foundation benefit at Carnegie Hall. At one point the organization's funky, tribal-looking "R" logo appeared on screen. At that moment I remembered that I had drawn it. That was back in 1989 when Sting and Trudie Styler founded the organizaion. I don't remember how we came to do the logo, but my old studio Manhattan Design was working on a logo and some album package designs for Sting's Panagea Records at that time. Probably we just threw it in.

Flipside

Something to add to all the recent blogging about the "MTV-minus-the-Music" logo. A design I came up with for a 2-sided version of the original logo. The idea was that it could be used on a glass door or window.

I Want My . . . Daily News

I found out yesterday via email from Christina Kinon at the Daily News about the revised MTV logo. We spoke briefly and her article about the new logo scheme appeared in today's paper. A small excerpt:

Frank Olinsky and his team at Manhattan Design created the MTV logo when the network launched. When the change was announced yesterday, Olinsky wasn't feeling much nostalgia. "I had no idea" the change was coming, said Olinsky. "MTV now is a whole other reality than MTV was back in the day. Things change. The fact that it doesn't say 'music television' anymore, that's appropriate."

Perelandra Green Bags

I stopped by Perelandra Natural Foods here in Brooklyn this afternoon to pick up some of their brand new reusable/recycleable green shopping bags. These bags feature the logo I designed "very, very long ago" for owner and dear friend, Steve Hoose. The Perelandra logo was based on the small watercolor painting seen above. The bags are only 65 cents so pick up a bunch.
